From all reports, World IPv6 Day was a success. Online Tech was one of the major hosting providers participating in World IPv6 Day on June 8th along with 400 participating web sites and content providers including Google, Facebook, and Yahoo. From 7PM EST on Tuesday June 7th to 7PM Wednesday June 8th, the participating companies ran their web sites simultaneously on IPv4 and IPv6 networks.
Online Tech participated in IPv6 Day to educate the market about the new IP addressing scheme and help its clients start the transition process. By making IPv6 day participation a priority for the company, we were able to learn key lessons we can share with our clients as they face the transition in the future.
According to Web Host Industry Review, John Curran, chief executive of the American Registry for Internet Numbers, called the test flight a “remarkable success,” with no significant problems reported by any of the more than 500 participants.
Data Center Knowledge reported a modest increase in IPv6 traffic for the day through monitoring done by Arbor Networks.
Arbor Networks concluded it was going to be a long road to IPv6 adoption.
