Closing the Cloud Skills Gap at your Organization

Blog Posts

The (ISC)² Cybersecurity report surveyed over 3700 security professionals predicting that “the global cybersecurity workforce needs to grow 89% to effectively defend organizations’ critical assets.” This dearth of available resources is compounded by a YoY 15% increase in salary requirements. (Cybersecurity Analysts today average $103K+)  Most organizations may need to make difficult and expensive staffing decisions as their business expands. The continuing move to cloud native and increase in Digital Transformations will exacerbate this situation.

What’s the Options?

Building the required cloud skills within your organization should include the following:

  • Cyber Security (Access, software/SaaS, virtualization, APIs, compliance, evolving threats.)
  • Cloud Computing (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, virtualization, public – private – hybrid clouds.)
  • Cloud Architecture (Design and blueprint for cloud computing solution: front & backend platforms, cloud delivery, cybersecurity and DevOps.)
  • IT governance & compliance (Assure IT governance policy and frameworks.)
  • Business intelligence (Software and services analysis resulting in actionable planning.)
  • Software and SaaS implementation (Implement and integrate evolving software and SaaS solutions.)
  • DevOps (Methodologies and tools for the automation of processes and development.)
  • Advanced tools (AI, Big Data, Data Visualization, Machine Learning, Automation are just a few of the advanced skills that may be required for your cloud-transformed business.)

A quick look at the average of today’s salaries for these positions indicates a whopping (and well deserved) $750K total to fill the 8 positions- if you can find them. And that’s not fully loaded costs. As is well known, employee training is an investment that improves retention and may also help solve the Cloud IT resource problem. For example, to fill the gap for a Cyber Security specialist, the CISSP (Certified Information Security Services Professional) can take from 6 days to 6 months to achieve. The timeframe is dependent on current experience and security knowledge level of the individual. Achieving proficiency in Business Intelligence (BI) is largely a matter of experience, training and certification(s) on the tools utilized by your company. These tools can include data visualization, data modeling, decision-support systems, database management systems, and data warehousing systems. There is a boundless number of resources and online trainings/certifications available to assist the cloudification of your IT team.
