As the only hosting provider in the country audited against the Office of Civil Rights Audit Protocol, Online Tech has appealed to the inventors of wireless and mobile health technology. The company offers healthcare-focused clients a complete range of HIPAA-compliant hosting options – encrypted cloud, colocation and managed dedicated servers – that ensure data and applications are always available and always secure.
Two of those innovators – both of which host their mobile product on Online Tech’s enterprise-class, fully-encrypted cloud – will be guests of Online Tech at the mHealth Summit held December 8-11 at The Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center near Washington D.C. They are:
instaRounds: Created by physicians for physicians, instaRounds is a web and mobile platform designed to enhance the ability to communicate with colleagues in a secure and HIPAA compliant format. CEO Kurian Thott, a gynecological surgeon in Virginia, led the development of the program after realizing communication between other doctors in his practice was “archaic” and, in some instances, unsecure. Currently focused on the OBGYN field, instaRounds allows physicians to communicate over HIPAA compliant servers, share call schedules, follow appointments, allow cross coverage and give physicians a mobile patient sign-out application. It is currently being used by more than 3,400 physicians in roughly 220 practices across the United States and in the United Kingdom and Singapore. Thott says instaRounds’ future growth potential includes extending its use to pediatrics, urology, trauma and other specialties. Thott chose Online Tech as his hosting provider because it was HIPAA, PCI and SOX audited and his data would be encrypted throughout the process. “They took care of compliance so we didn’t have to spend a lot of time, effort or money proving it,” Thott said.
DocView Solutions: Creators of a mobile app designed to assist providers in the complex management of off-site patients with chronic diseases. The program, used primarily with iPads, engages patients in all aspects of their care signs, symptoms and health behaviors, and shares them with all providers, primary and caregivers. Patients feel connected to their caregiver community and clinicians say the program is easy to use and meets each person’s unique needs, creating a best-case scenario for patients and staff. DocView chief technical officer Daniel LeRiche, who will spend time in Online Tech’s exhibition booth at the mHealth Summit, said Online Tech helped DocView emerge from the “wild, wild West” of mobile health options by providing instant credibility. “We’re clearly living in an environment where security and compliance is ever-increasing,” LeRiche said. “Companies don’t let you in the door without all the evidence. Online Tech provides all the policies and procedures that really help us deliver a better product. We couldn’t do without it.”
Online Tech’s focus on security and compliance has spurred its continued growth, particularly in the healthcare field. The company has averaged more than 30 percent annual growth since 2003 and recently announced the addition of a fourth Michigan data center to its portfolio, with plans to continue expansion across the Midwest in 2014.
“Our theme of compliance and mission critical applications has taken a toehold not only in Michigan, but across the country, where few cloud providers have been through a full HIPAA and PCI audit,” Online Tech co-CEO Mike Klein said. “We have, and that has driven a lot of growth.”
